What is Botpress?

Botpress is an open-source-rooted platform for building AI chatbots and agents powered by large language models. Developers and technical teams use its visual studio plus code to create bots that answer questions from uploaded knowledge, connect to business systems, and run on websites, WhatsApp, Slack, and other channels. Autonomous reasoning lets bots handle multi-step conversations rather than rigid scripted flows.

Botpress appeals to teams that want control: self-hosting heritage, extensibility, and the ability to inspect and shape how the agent behaves. Its marketplace of integrations and templates speeds up common builds. That control comes with complexity — non-technical users face a steeper learning curve than with plug-and-play chatbot tools, and usage-based AI costs need budgeting on busy bots.
