What is Nano Banana?

Nano Banana is the playful name the internet gave to Google's Gemini image model — officially Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, with newer Banana generations since — and it became the image editor people search for by name. Its party trick is editing with words: change an outfit, swap a background or merge photos while the person in the picture stays recognisably themselves.

You use it inside the Gemini app or Google AI Studio: upload a photo, describe the change in plain language, then refine the result turn by turn. Character consistency across scenes made it a favourite for product shots, storyboards and social content. Free use carries daily limits and every output is watermarked with SynthID; paid Google plans raise limits considerably.
