What is Beamfy?

Beamfy, launched on Product Hunt on November 3, 2026, is an AI vision assistant for blind and low-vision people. Point your phone, tap one large button, and it describes what is in front of you as you walk — hazards first, in short sentences with direction words — reads printed text aloud, and reads out a walking route before you set off. It is built for VoiceOver on iPhone and TalkBack on Android, and works in 74 languages.

The app is unusually honest about its limits: it says plainly when it is not sure instead of guessing, it does not recognize faces or process biometric data, and photos are not stored. SOS is free for everyone, always — a 10-second countdown, then a text with your location to a chosen emergency contact. The free tier gives 7 days of full access, then 5 descriptions or readings every day.

Key Features

Live scene descriptions while walking, with hazards spoken first
Reads printed text aloud — signs, labels, letters, and menus — with translation on request
Walking routes read step by step before you set off
SOS with a 10-second cancel countdown, free for everyone, always
74 languages, built for VoiceOver and TalkBack, with no face recognition and no stored photos

Pros

Genuinely useful free tier, with SOS free for everyone, not locked behind a paywall
Honest limits stated on the official site — says when unsure instead of guessing
Strong privacy stance: no stored photos, no face recognition, no tracking on its website

Cons

A brand-new app (November 3, 2026 launch), so long-term reliability is still unproven
Needs an internet connection — descriptions, reading, and routes do not work offline
It previews a walking route but does not guide you live or detect obstacles, so it never replaces a cane or guide dog
