Elorian Glimpse
A visual-reasoning model that keeps going back to the image — pinch to zoom, mid-reasoning.
What is Elorian Glimpse?
Elorian's first model, Glimpse, launched October 16, 2026 as a research preview, and it is built around a single thesis: today's multimodal models still can't really see. Most vision models glance at an image once, convert it to tokens, and then reason about that description from memory. Glimpse keeps going back to the actual pixels mid-reasoning — cropping into a region, pulling specific frames from a video, or running code to measure what it is looking at. Elorian calls the mechanism a "visual scratch space."
The startup story behind it is striking. CEO Andrew Dai, a former Google DeepMind researcher, trained Glimpse with a small team on a few hundred GPUs on top of an open-weights base — substantially smaller than the frontier systems it benchmarks against — and the company is upfront about that. Its own benchmark table shows Glimpse beating OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra on scientific chart reasoning and short-form video captioning, while Astra still leads on other tests. It is priced at $0.60 per million input tokens and $3.00 per million output tokens, aimed at developers building with images, video, documents, or robotics.
Key Features
- Visual scratch space: re-examines the source image mid-reasoning instead of tokenizing it once.
- Crops into image regions, extracts specific video frames, and runs code against what it sees.
- Beats GPT-6 Astra on scientific chart reasoning and short-form video captioning per company benchmarks.
- Trained by a small team on a few hundred GPUs — cheap enough to price well below frontier models.
- API access open at launch; chat interface currently waitlist-only.
Pros
- A genuinely different technical approach to vision reasoning, not a fine-tune of someone else's stack.
- Strong early chart and video-understanding scores at a fraction of frontier model pricing.
- Small-team, cheap-training story suggests fast iteration rather than a stalled research demo.
Cons
- Research preview: the chat interface is waitlist-only and public API docs are still thin.
- Only useful for developers — there is no consumer-facing product for general users yet.
- Key benchmark claims (chart reasoning, video captioning) are the company's own evaluations, not independently reproduced.
Pricing
- Model: Paid
- $0.60 per million input tokens, $3.00 per million output tokens via API; chat interface waitlist-only.
